Selling FAQ

WHEN DO YOU HOLD YOUR AUCTIONS?

General vehicle auctions at The Motor Auction Group (MAG) are every Moday, Wednesday & Friday at 6pm.

Motorbike sales are held regularly each month, please contact the office or view the motorbike buy or motorbike sell sections of the website.

DO I HAVE TO BE IN THE MOTOR TRADE TO ATTEND AN AUCTION?

No you don't have to be a professional car buyer, we welcome both motor traders and private customers alike.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO BID ON A VEHICLE?

Make yourself known to the auctioneer.  This is best achieved by a clear raising of the hand or catalogue.

HOW MUCH DEPOSIT WILL I NEED?

The required deposit is 10% of the vehicle hammer price or £200, whichever is greater.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN WHEN THE AUCTIONEER SAYS 'SOLD SUBJECT' OR 'PROVISIONAL'?

This is when the final bid in the auction hall is below the seller's reserve price.  In this case we will take your details and deposit, submit your bid to the owner of the vehicle, and carry out the negotiation on your behalf.

WHY DO I PAY A BUYER'S FEE?

The buyer's fee covers you against the vehicle being a stolen vehicle or subject to an undercharged higher purchase agreement.  If it transpires that the vehicle is a stolen vehicle or has outstanding finance and the matter can not be resolved, you will be able to return the vehicle to us and have the hammer price refunded.

WHEN DO I NEED TO PAY FOR A VEHICLE BY?

All vehicles must be paid for by noon the day after the sale.  It does not matter if you can't take the vehicle away immediately, but payment must be made promptly.

WHAT DOCUMENTATION WILL I GET?

Once you have paid for the vehicle you will receive the relevant documentation.  This will include the green slip from the V5 (if applicable), MOT (if applicable), along with any other documentation that we received from the vendor.

IF I DON'T LIKE OR DON'T WANT THE CAR CAN I BRING IT BACK?

Once the hammer falls you enter a legal contract with the vendor to purchase the vehicle.  If you fail to pay for a vehicle you will forfeit your deposit and you will not be allowed to purchase from the auction again.

WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT ARE ACCEPTED?

We accept Cash, Credit and Debit Cards.  NB. Cash surcharge 1%+VAT, Credit Card 3%+VAT, Debit Card £5+VAT, or Nextgear Capital Stocking Plan

CAN I ENTER A VEHICLE INTO THE AUCTION WITHOUT A V5 OR MOT?

If you do not have a V5 you will be asked for photo and address identification and potentially proof of ownership.  If the vehicle does not have an MOT we will enter it into the auction, but you must bear in mind that it will have an effect on the sale price.

MY VEHICLE IS TAXED, DO I INCLUDE THIS WITH THE SALE?

Due to a change in legislation any vehicle tax refund is now sent to the registered keeper.  If you are the registered keeper you can keep the tax disc and apply for a refund for any remaining full months.  If you are not the registered keeper you will not be able to do this and should leave the tax with the car.

WHEN WILL I BE PAID FOR MY VEHICLE?

Payment is sent out by cheque, four working days after the sale of the vehicle.

DOES MAG COLLECT VEHICLES FOR SALE?
