NAMA Vehicle Grading Scale
Here’s a breakdown of the NAMA Grades 1 to 5 and U (Unclassified):
Grade 1 – Excellent Condition
- Vehicle is in exceptional condition for its age and mileage.
- Only very minor defects allowed (e.g., a couple of stone chips or a light scratch).
- Requires minimal or no preparation for retail sale.
Grade 2 – Good Condition
- Light wear and tear, consistent with age and mileage.
- Minor bodywork repairs may be required (small dents, scratches).
- Overall, the vehicle is clean and straight.
Grade 3 – Average Condition
- More noticeable cosmetic defects like multiple scratches, scuffs, or dents.
- Some repairs required, possibly mechanical as well.
- Still economically repairable and retailable.
Grade 4 – Below Average Condition
- Significant cosmetic damage and/or mechanical issues.
- May need multiple body panels repaired or replaced.
- Still repairable, but preparation costs may be higher.
Grade 5 – Poor Condition
- Major damage or heavy wear.
- Multiple major repairs needed—bodywork, interior, and mechanical.
- Generally suited to the trade or for parts.
rade U (Unclassified) – Non-Retail Condition
- Vehicle is not fit for retail in its current state.
- Accident damage, non-runners, or those requiring major mechanical work.
- Sold as-is, no preparation assumed.
This grading system helps sellers and buyers set expectations and value vehicles consistently, especially in digital and timed auctions where viewing might be limited.
